Alternatives to Ceramic Glaze?

What can I use to color ceramics? I am unable to use typical ceramics glaze (health reasons), and the same goes for acrylic paint. What else can I use to color them? Could I use non-acrylic water color or non-acrylic paint? Any thoughts?
