Braces? Are they weird at my age?

Okay so I am a 17 year old senior and have needed braces since forever but have waited until now to really do something about it. I really don't want them but my teeth are horrible like extremely bad but I feel like I'm too old for them. I am going to be in college in the fall and turn 18 this November and am just wondering what you guys think about it and any advice on the kinds (ceramic, regular, etc.) Thanks in advance.
